They lay down their weapons
frail and bitter souls
for whom the bell tolls
standing proud
tears faliing like innocence
when most should repent
on how their time on earth was spent
weapons rusted, and old
resting on soil bloody, and cold
now obsolete
like names written in concrete
washed away by frustration
the aching pain of a nation
lost in a senseless war
where troops endure the errors
religious terror
while at home
their children play
momma cries he’ll be home one day
yet does she really know!
when it will be his time to go
memories sink deep like arthritis
as she gives the kids a goodnite kiss
they lay down their weapons
frail, and bitter souls
for whom the bell tolls

Keith… I don’t really like to say anything about someone else’s writing because I feel strange putting a title on someone’s emotion but as a veteran to this ignorant murder of innocence I appreciate what you shared, and thank you
this was written for men like you who protect this nation from senseless violence, and i should be thanking you

Love the sentiment, Keith. Let’s bring them home before we carry them home. The world has its full share of tyrants and hate mongers. They have always been with us and always will be. However, you cannot fight an ideal. You cannot bomb someone into loving you. The U.S. alone has spent and is spending over $340 million dollars per day on the war in Iraq. Every day! Imagine if we spent that much on clean drinking water systems, food, education and basic shelter around the world. One love, indeed. Great stuff, Keith. I will keep my eye on you.
you are absolutely correct we need to focus on America and solve our problems at home

Nice, sad piece Keith. One day maybe there will be no need to build any more memorials
