The Half-Moon Swimming Club is on the south wall of Dublin Harbour. It used to be a men’s only swimming place where men could get neked together and swim in the sea. It attracted all sorts of characters and the talk [craic] was an education to a young fellow. It had its share of queers but they had to mind their manners or they would get pitched into the river Liffey on the other side of the wall, not a nice prospect because it was full of
excrement from the pumping station half a mile up river.
