It’s a tee. It’s a dress. It’s the new Graphic T-shirt Dress.

What does not kill us.........Makes us stronger

So you stare…
I have grown quite accustomed
To the sheer look of confusion and
Perplexity scribbled all over your faces

So you pause to try and read my purpose
As if it were a billboard on my hands
When I reach into my non-designer purse
But yet, you do not hesitate to ask where
I purchased it…

So I wear my hair straight one day
And coiled like bed cushions the next
Yes it’s natural, no relaxer…you gasp!!
How? Why?
Why not-I reply…
How do you do it?
Easy I say..

So you come by and visit my humble abode
Labyrinth through my belongings
You begin to form a picture-first word
That swells in the mouth …“Weird”
And to your bewilderment I say
“Oh, thank you”

So I listen to everything but the radio,
News, or some of the highest rated t.v. shows
I exhibit my cd collection
Which is probably like nothing
You have ever heard of

Upon your exit you comment
I like “Your” music
As if I had invented it just because
You have never heard it before
But you “Like” it

So I love colours , flowers, and love
And decorate my life accordingly
And yet, my consistent joy and dependability
Strikes you lighting awkward coming from
A single divorced mother of four
Working but still getting some assistance
Just a singing and a dancin

So what that I am not as busted up
And broken down as I guess someone
Might be in my shoes
But, have you seen my shoes?
I stand quite tall
Totem… and you like then too
But you would not wear them
Out of fear of your nobleman’s
Thoughts and magisterial conclusions
Which leaves the passageways
Unobstructed for me
So I repeat….Thank you…

Thank you for lessoning my yoke by
Taking on that extra barreling burden of
Being embarrassed about my appearance
Or ass-uming that I partake in ritualistic
Self loathing or regretting my family size,
Bra size, Pant size, Dress size….bank account size

Thank you for keeping those buzzing
People complexes (malls) in your budget
The hair and nail salons open and officious
While I do my own shit at home and
Look just as good
But can do what you do if and when I desire

Thank you for putting on blast my differences
From you and your cliques
Even though my attention, opinions, and company
You earnestly seek

Thank you for making me the brunt
Of your jokes and ridicule
For being able to make you see a silver lining
When I may not be able to see at all—unwavering
My glass is always half full!!

Thank you for fun-da-mentally plucking
Harassing, and mollifying me and
My whole state of being…
Ranking me on a much lower plain
Because Guess what?
That shit does build character!!
I will graciously drink in character over
Name brands, acrylic and high-gloss spritzer

Those are all cool things…so am I
Without the touch of frostbite

I am essentially not all that dissimilar

I just add a little more sugar to my lemonade……….

What does not kill us.........Makes us stronger
