Dragon Wings

Like a dragons’ wings
Life surrounds me in endless night
Where love once bloomed, now trampled…forgotten
A heart ripped in two
Where home, once a haven
My prison now has become
No voice, only a shadow upon colored walls
And lifeless halls
I, no longer exist in this place
Only a figure with no face
He beckons me, with his mournful sighs
Echoing my own anguished cries
His dark wings enfold me in timeless sleep
Clinging to what might have been
If the merciless knife would not have cut so deep
To look upon me, no scars show
They are hidden well, locked in a tortured soul
Yet with each new assault
Larger do my dragons’ wings grow
It is not a creature of myth or legend
But one brought forth by hurt and deception
Promises given only to be broken
Created by constant rejection
That screech you hear, in the dead of night
With wings torn, arched in flight
Is the part of me that has died
Taken shape and form from the tears I cry
He stands proud with head held high
The last of what remains of pride
His wings bear the scars of hurt
My dragon that allows my soul to fly
His dark wings enfold me tight
Luring me into a peaceful sleep
Look close upon his face, a tear does shine
For what has become of this heart of mine
We are the same, he and I
Just a shadow in this life
With tattered wings against a twilight sky
Upon my dragons’ wings is what is left of I
