Located in West Chester, PA, in East Goshen Township, this old farmhouse, springhouse and barn, sit off the road. Most people don’t even realize it’s there. East Goshen township is richly loaded with Pennsylvania history.
It was here that a much unheard about skirmish, called the “Battle of the Clouds,” was fought during the Revolutionary War. As fate would have it for Washington’s men, the clouds burst wide open, so that neither the British or Americans could see to fire, causing an American retreat. Much of their ammunition was lost due to treacherous flooding, which rendered roads unpassable. Little known as this battle is, it undoubtedly changed the course of the war, since Washington’s men were outflanked and would have been devestated from defeat.
This farmhouse is a typical example of beautiful historic preservation in East Goshen Township. Stone buildings of the past are one of Pennsylvania’s greatest treasures!
