Chester County Day located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, USA has become a yearly tradition for generations of Chester County residents and visitors. Listen up and gather around the Master of the Foxhounds as he rounds up his hounds and prepares them for the chase. Then comes the bugle call for the riders and their mounts to start. It truly is a sight to see – about 30 or so hounds and at least 20 -25 riders. After the Hunt, comes a house tour. The “Day”, as it is called, starts with the traditional fox hunt and is the nation’s oldest house tour, with this years Chester County day marking the 73rd year in a row. It is a fabulous sight to see!

This photograph was shot with a Canon 40D, equipped with a 18-200mm lens.

My life is like a well read book that’s never ending, at least for this moment in time. As I continually add new chapters to my book, I find that my photography plays a big part in it. This is most especially true as my great love and fascination with Mother Naure never wanes. It’s my hope that you, too, will share my joy as the pages in my book of life continue to flip forward! Good shot Polly but such a cruel ‘sport’

  • Hi Polly! They don’t actually do anything, if they even find a fox…It used to be that way. Now, they do it for the tradition as well as the show!! :))

They still hunt foxes and it is very cruel http://nwhsa.org.uk/fox_hunting%20and%20how%20t...

  • Gogo – your information is from the UK…What we do here in the Chester County, USA is different – they chase the fox until it goes into the ground or the earth and it is not a killing sport. See this link:

Sorry but it would still be terrifying for the fox. He wouldn’t know they’re not going to kill him.

  • I understand your thoughts…I truly do, but this is also a game for the fox. Please read below:

The game is not cruel. It is hide-and-seek and the crafty fox knows the countryside like one knows his household environment. When the fox tires of this game he dives into an open earth (his home beneath the ground) and then again, it’s musical, the barking hounds as they “mark” his earth, the note of the hunting horn as their huntsman blows " his fox to ground" all contribute to the pageantry of the hunt.
