I just can’t say enough about traveling along Rt. 50, known as the loneliest road in Nevada. It is full of so many beautiful surprises and yes, it is very lonely! It’s rare to see other cars travelling on the same route. Sand Mountain in western Nevada lies 2.5 miles (4 km) north of US Highway 50, about 16 miles east of Fallon. A dirt road leads to the soft apron along its base. From here it is an easy walk to the dunes. Seeing Sand Mountain was stunning at best!
