Circular Sunrise
July 20th, 2009 produced one heck of a mighty sunrise! As I traversed over a golf course and came closer to the rising sun, I was in awe of the incredible sky paintings that illuminated the ground I stood on! One of my favorite old Joni Mitchell songs, is “Circle Game.” It seems fitting for this picture. It’s my hope that you enjoy both the sunset and Joni!! This photograph was shot with a Canon 40D wide angle 75mm lens in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Yesterday, a child came out to wander
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
And the seasons they go ‘round and ‘round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
Then, the child moved ten times ‘round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, “When you’re older”, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go ‘round and ‘round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came,
and go round and round and round
In the circle game
Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town
And they tell him, “Take your time. It won’t be long now.
‘Til you drag your feet to slow the circles down”
And the seasons they go ‘round and ‘round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game
So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There’ll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through.
And the seasons they go ‘round and ‘round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and ‘round and ‘round
In the circle game
And go ‘round and ‘round and ‘round in the circle game.

Thanks Lois – I really appreciate your awesome compliment! Yes, I started listening to Joni in 1968 and just loved her music!! Thanks so much Kathy – this sunrise was one of the coolest that I have ever seen – most sunrises I used to view over the ocean, so catching one like this on land, made it special!! :))))
arvyart
Hi Pol! How are you doing? This is amazing capture of the flaming sky. The silhuettes of trees and that lighted arty spot! The song is beautiful too. “And go round and round and round in the circle game” That words simply hit a target in your wonderful capture. Hugs! :)
Polly Peacock replied
Thanks dear Arvy- I have a bunch more too, but liked this one because of the circular effect of the lawn mower!! I am doing very well – will give you a BM soon, K? Glad you liked the circle game! That song goes back to when I was about 11 years old and I still listen to Joni to this day!! YUP – hehehehe!! xoxoxo to you my dear friend!! :))))

OH HOW AWESOME!!! What a great great shot Polly. I love it. I’m so glad to see that you are getting out and seeing the sunrise. I LOVE that song Circle game. I have sung it many times. Thinking of it makes me sad that I don’t have my guitar anymore. Ah well. I will have to listen to that song tomorrow. GREAT SHOT!!
Polly Peacock replied
Thanks so much Elizabeth!! It was a breathtaking morning here!! I stayed up all night, which was cool – had a fox at my squirrel/bunny/bird food stop station – LOL! Yes, “Circle Game,” has always been one of my favs, among so many others! I see Joni as one of the legends of female folk music – so creative with her words and music!! Ah, if you ever want to start playing again, think about getting a “Daisy” guitar! They are specially made for women and are so much easier to play!! So glad this gave you some awesome nostalgia!!! I will not be back until the 11th now, but things here are finally getting into motion!! :))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Barbara Brown

Polly Peacock replied
Thanks so very much Michael! Yes, Joni is one of my all time favorites – lol – I have so many of them!! I too, have seen her in concert and WOW, what a rich experience that was!! Yes, sweet nostalgia, eh? You are welcome – it’s awesome to see so many people who can relate to the beautiful music of the 60’s and 70’s!! I am delighted that it brings back good times for you, just as it does for me as well!! Cheers Mike!! :))))

a beautiful fire in the sky…and i have to laugh at tammys crop circles…heheh looks like someone has been driving the cart on the golf course early on and not at a ninety degree angle…lololol love the song too….great shot sis..xoxox
Polly Peacock replied
Yes, Sis – this was quite the morning and I will be putting up other pics as well – one in particular is very spiritual and am working on it this morning!! Leave it to Tammy to come up with crop circles, huh? Joni brings back some memories, eh? Good memories for me, as much of my camping trips out west in the late 1970’s, were filled with Joni singing in the car!! She is timeless, as far as I am concerned!! Thanks so much Sis as always!!! xoxoxo!! :))))
Tara Turner
