Kings Bridge, Launceston, Tasmania

Built in 1880, the historic Kings Bridge spans the swirling waters of the junction of three rivers in the heart of Launceston, Tasmania. The bridge neatly frames the last few metres of the South Esk River which flows through Cataract Gorge then down over the last few boulders on the river bed into the Tamar River and out to the white-capped waters of Bass Strait.

Cracking shot Carol & the South Esk is an interesting name. I wonder if there’s a Scottish or UK connection. Musselburgh has the River esk here in East Lothian but there’s a North & South Esk here in the UK. I’m not sure if that makes three rivers with the Esk in the name or if its two, never really given it any thought until now. xx

Hi Robin…thanks for stopping by….there certainly is a connection to the UK…over 80% of our place names here in Tasmania have English connection…stems from the convict heritage, most of the convicts were sent here, Tassie was known then as Van Dieman’s Land.

It could be mistaken for a European backroad with such architecture and scenery. Stunning Carol.

This is a beatiful shot. I really like your use of natural light and colours here, the prospective used really gives a lot of depth to the scene.
    Great work. – Peter
