Teacher's Pet Ablaze
The ‘Teacher’s Pet’ caught fire and washed ashore on Gardner’s Island the night of July 29, 2008. I was on a fishing trip off the coast of Long Island, NY, when we noticed a plume of dark smoke in the sky. There were no casualties and the accident is still under investigation. I wanted to share this photo because I am pretty proud of the fact that it was published in The Suffolk Times, the local paper out here.

It’s a superb picture, but a horrible sight. Thank goodness there were no injuries.
Well done on getting your image published

Thanks Wanda! We saw the plume of smoke from a distance, but when you are out in a boat you are kind of compelled to go see if anyone needs help.

I just saw your picture….very dramatic indeed. Great shot Phillip.
The last time I saw a boat buring like that was in St. Pete Florida,....they were filming Miami Vice in St Pete, and burnt a boat as part of the story line…..
Scoop Moore….thats what they ought to call you now…..smilin….there used to be good money from insurance companies if you were first on the scene…..something to remember.

Thanks!
I actually did a favor for the insurance adjuster because he was a friend of a friend and gave him a CD of all my images for free.
