On a recent trip to San Francisco the Alcatraz island and prison was a must visit. Every visitor’s main destination is the cell block which also becomes a photographers nightmare with the masses walking into and out of frame constantly and not to mention all the audio tours preventing any kind of nice direction. As I stepped into a side section of the main block to capture another picture I looked over and saw the spiral staircase and it was also remarkably void of any other visitors. Allowed for a nice composition and the overcast conditions outside also reduced a lot of shadows being cast.
