Artist's Description

The Kit Carson Trail is a walking path through Carson City’s residential homes district. A painted blue line and bronze medallions along the sidewalk mark the route, which features stops at landmarks, including 1800s-era Victorian-style homes, museums and churches.

Orin Clemens was the secretary to the territorial Governor James W. Nye, and lived in this house with his wife Mollie from 1864-1866. His brother Samuel, who worked as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise, later became known as Mark Twain, stayed here periodically in 1864.
