Interesting photo. What is the story behind this one?
Hi Rough Diamond, just read your bio sketch – I’d be happy to go anywhere in Australia if the travel is paid for too! … The story behind this picture: these are schoolgirls at a private school on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. Private schoolers all wear uniforms. There is universal free public education in Uganda, but it’s of low quality so for those who can afford $300-$800 per year there are private schools which are better but still variable in quality. This school was quite good, endowed by Anglican missionaries and still displaying Anglican slogans all around, but theoretically secular. These girls are just … waiting … The sign behind them preaches abstinence to prevent HIV/AIDS which is the biggest threat to these girls’ futures, and perhaps the whole country’s. Thanks for asking!

Thanks Peter, very interesting. I’m always curious about these kinds of shots, the story behind the people and this is great. :)x
Thanks. Yes pictures can be worth hundreds if not thousands of words and I, too, seek to create narratives in pictures – not complete stories, just the kernels of potential stories. The pictures are pregnant with possibilities, with hints to where the plot may go. The beholder is then free to take the journey where the picture leaves off …
I like this, its really telling a story, with or without the real story. But rough diamond is right, its always interesting to read, what really happened, or, in this case, country and circumstances.I like this light-focus.. Well done, Peter! (Excuse mistakes, please, I’m german)

I’m so appreciative of your interest, and I thank you for your comments. Your own gallery is very, very interesting itself, spanning this country and others, depicting moments and items large and small, dramatic and subtle in clear, honest, memorable images.
