Sri Lankan boy, soon after the 2004 tsunami.

And, he’s smiling! The tenacity of the human spirit always amazes me. You have captured that here…phenomenal work:)
All the children in the village were smiling, and running around and laughing. Yes, absolutely amazing. My fear, though, is that the trauma of the tsunami may produce negative psychological effects later in their lives. Not to mention the smaller daily traumas they experience relating to poverty, lack of good education, and drug and alcohol related behaviors of some of the adults. Hate to be pessimistic, and I’m not, and these Sri Lankans are unvelieveably resilient, but with so many dire challenges, these kids face uncertain futures, to say the least. Thanks so much again for looking at and responding to my pictures.
A wonderful capture Peter and what you write about these children and their future is so true. A child’s mind is strong but uncounciously I also think this misery makes scars… I was in India for 6 months and saw a lot of misery and still people were smiling… They look at their lives in another way then we western people do… I can not explain it so good in English but I think you will understand what I mean.. Beautiful shot of a beautiful boy Peter !x anna
