Artist's Description

Taken in Worcester Guildhall, this is a representation of the City of Worcester Coat of Arms. Until the 17th Century the arms consisted of the castle alone. From then on 3 black pears were added although only 2 are present in this image – top right. This was in recognition of a now rare local pear variety, which Queen Elizabeth the First had seen on a visit to Worcester in 1575.
