Part of a 7 foot tall fossil tree trunk which forms part of the memorial to Alfred Russel Wallace on his grave in Broadstone, Dorset. One of the most important scientists of the 19th century, he is recognised as the co-discoverer of evolution by natural selection, sharing that honour with Charles Darwin.
