LILLY, WHERE ARE YOU REVISITED

It has been a long time
since I met a woman
my mouth bled for,
that my heart started speaking to
without my conscious consent,
that the moon became alive for
and the sun took on new colors
as my head swam with involuntary
words I was afraid to speak,
such as, “Come with me. Stay with me.
Take time, for time is all we have,
for we could be each other
with different faces. Be with me
and let me love you until we know…”
I have been wandering through Europe
for ten years now and my old prayer,
“Lilly, where are you?” that I uttered
in the olive groves of Italy
with such passion when this journey began,
has become the silence of resignation
that so many souls know…
who live alone, and get by,
and have forgotten how to cry.

Artist's Description

I do better not thinking about a soul mate, not wanting to feel that old longing energy. I’m happy alone, and at times that concerns me. What lies deeper, lurking under this happy contentment? What about the old grief, the passionate love, the unutterable mystery, the sense of completion, the dream of sharing, the instinct to inspire a woman’s freedom, the desire to buy that special dress, to cook that memorable meal? Oh yes… and that pink silk.
