TWO POEMS ON MAKING LOVE TO GOD THIS WAY

MAKING LOVE TO GOD THIS WAY

Making Love to God this way,
through the naked center opening
in pure reflection of the naked body opening
its most tender and ecstatic core,
is celebration of the union
of essence with essence
in the utterly simple,
pure nature of Love
caressing every cell,
making the little animal of our body
hum.

LET THE BEAUTY THROUGH
Lil Torpet

Love melts through as pure poetry:
Life sings in its own language:
Life itself—
that great mystery no lover ever
seeks to solve.
Love reveals the wonder
and wonder opens the heart to beauty—
that ravishment of Love.
Let the beauty through: it isn’t yours
to possess or use. It is the deepest you
and its tenderness is as strong
as a star.
Melt to Love and become an infection.
Those who catch it will love you forever.
Someone said, Meditate on the scriptures,
but Love made me jump.
I had to twirl and sing.
There is no use trying to be respectable.
When the wind blows through the tree,
the tree goes wild.

Artist's Description

  • I am convinced that the old religions are incomplete: developed mostly by celibate men that pitted spirit against the dense body and thus created inner conflict. There are other ways of Life, creative ways that unify body, soul and spirit, that repress nothing but move through everything to untwist it until the whole body, each cell, all its DNA sings its primal innocence — in the same way the sun is innocent, each flower bud swelling, each animal’s glistening eyes, each undamaged child. This innocence of being is what Wm. Blake talked about, the inherent wise innocence regained after the veil of experience’s tears and empty triumphs… this unburied and recovered sense of wonder, this clapping of the hands at the rising of the sun, this joy in the gift of each breath, this natural gratitude arising for the miracle of sight and sound, this thrill of ecstatic joy in the warmth of a friend’s voice. I believe in making love to God — I mean limitless Love, wildly creative wisdom, pure gift-giving freedom, warm welcomer, curious explorer, tender healing mercies and beauty, beauty, beauty — this way.*
