my first in a series of interviews that started here

It was such a pleasure to interview Dawn. She has been a marvelous friend, i met her not long after i joined RB, and was so drawn to her beautiful pastel of Animals and land & seacapes, and to see her blossoming into a great photographer has been a real treat and joy. So without further ado here is her interview:

How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life?

When an idea comes into my head, its becomes like a chase for me, a challenge, I am not the kind of person who can leave something until tomorrow if it can possibly be done today, a bad trait some would say lol I look after 3 disabled people, one my husband and both my elderly ill parents, but i also get a lot of help from my 3 grown up children. They are all quite used to me being like a dog with a bone if i want or need to do something, I competed for many years at high level in the UK Rankings in the archery world, so they have always been used to having plans changed along the way, that was until i broke my collar bone in 2 places the day after I was asked to shoot for England indoors and the hospital and doctors thought it was a trapped nerve, my archery muscles were so strong it kept the collar bone in place. because it was hindering the archery I stopped doing so much and the pain, well we wont talk about that, well in so many words i drove them nuts, i need to be busy or i will look for things to do, my very good friend Hilary Robinson another artist on the RB site and also my archery coach, encouraged me to take up art as a hobby to keep me out of everyone’s hair, lol

Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful

I used to show my family my art and you know when they say Neat mom, well it means bin it hee hee and i was sorting out to do just that, then by mistake I found RB. Well I was blown away, on about traveling the world in 80 mins on RB, I joined on the spot, just so that i can see all the wonderful art and artists, i was enchanted, when my family found out, they thought i was mad and was going to put my art on, no way was I until they said that, hope you are starting to notice a trend with me hee hee i love a challenge. When i uploaded my first picture they told me, now mom don’t get upset if no one likes your art, hee hee well on my ever increasing comments I was getting from some fabulous artists they were shocked and they nearly fell off their chairs when i told them about my first sale, I was delighted not with the money, don’t care much about that but their faces were a picture and that meant more lol

Show & tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you

How I became hooked on RB my first minutes, well the art I was seeing was out of this world and still is, but the main 5 artists to blow me away were

Tony, Way Of The Warrior
Tony

American Mountain Lion

Jacky

Enlightened

Mark Peterson

The Princess

Kevin

Purple Love

pinkyjain

Wolves Surround The Carriage

hee hee yes your work to pinky and many many others
Mags, Angi, nicole weil, starlisa oh just hundreds and many more since, and I thank the stars up above for showing me this grand site.

What is the primary reason you make and enjoy experiencing art?

List some artists or experiences that have shaped the way you see the world.

My last 2 questions sort of combine,
I used to do art at school many years ago, and i was always having my nose ion an art book, i like all kinds and have quite a varied taste, lots of things appeal to me. I used to run a little bridal dress business from home when the kids were small, designing and making of, and i have always done flower arranging since i was 9 years old, and love colors, i also have loved animals of any kind and i find this planet of ours just amazing. Many years back the doc’s thought i had breast cancer and thankfully I never, but i did make me take some vows. To wake up thankful, to let my loved ones know I love them, to fill my days with as much as i can including beauty around me and if i cant then I should make my own and fill my time without waste.
We are all here for such a short time, and there are many things to be thankful for, so make the most of them, and for me now that includes my art and I really do believe we travel the world on this talented Redbubble site in 80 mins, well every minute I can spare hee hee and I love all that I see, that’s heaven to me.

Thank you again so much Dawn for doing the interview, was a real pleasure and honor

How you had time for such a lengthy and fascinating interview when I imagine you drawing, painting, imagining and “art-ing” 24/7 absolutely amazes me no end.. To the most prolific of artists I’ve “met” here. Nice work, both of you. Sandhill

Lovely interview; I love dawndavies’ work. I didn’t know she started photography; I should check it out; I’ll add her t my watchlist too. I agree about traveling around the world on the site in 80 minutes, it is amazing how much diversity and culture I explore here, and it is so much fun (much more enjoyable learning this way than through school ;) ). I get to hear stories about people have black bears on their front porches or koala bears in their backyards!
