Well, this my friend, is just the bomb
    I love you’re night work ;-))

  • I really like this one too but not happy with the light flares (the blue and green blobs and lines) tried to edit them out but it looked shit so here it is straight from the camera :o)

Really, really cool shot! I actually love the star flare :-)
If you do want to get rid of them, you’d need to shoot at around f/4 anything below that and you’ll get the flares – but please don’t – they add energy to this pic!!

  • aww thank you Vik!!! I thought I would lose points of confidence for that, is it technically wrong to have flare in a pic? anyhow I guess it only matters if I’m happy with it huh xox

Great work – Composition is spot on! I like the light flares. Did you use a slow shutter speed for this? I find I always get the light flare after about 5 secs. I quite like the effect though ;)

  • thanks so much Paul :) I’m Nic by the way. I had the exposure set at 4 seconds and Fstop at F/14. I tend to slow the exposure down for all my night work, especially for water where i have the exposure sometime set at 25 to 35 seconds :)

Awwww man girl! This is absolutely fanfreakingtastic! I see what you are saying about the blue blobs but I never would have thought anything of them. Other than it makes the flares look like eyes…..and the opening of the arch is a mouth….and I a being sucked in and will be eaten alive at any moment ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Oh sorry, got carried away there. But in all seriousness, I really love your night work and please give me a time were we can have a date and talk about this stuff and like, just catch up ok?! Luv ya ;)

Hi Nic, you can call me Jus and I’m glad you spilt the shot details to Paul, I was going to ask as well. I’m tempted to go out experimenting with night shots tonight. So a shutter speed of 4 seconds allows you to capture all the detail and a F14 gives you a long DOF? Just trying to remember photography 101 lol

  • your so welcome Jus & of course I would share the settings, I just keep changing them until I get the result I want :o) I learn the don’t’s more than the do’s everytime I switch the camera on! lol
One type of shooting I’m still struggling with is night events where people are moving around in low light at functions / weddings etc so any tips would be awesome :)
