I had a lovely day out in Leeds with Sandra Cockayne yesterday and we visited the abbey.
Kirkstall Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery in Kirkstall north-west of Leeds city centre in West Yorkshire. It is set in a public park on the north bank of the River Aire. It was founded c.1152. It was disestablished during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under the auspices of Henry VIII.

The picturesque ruins have been drawn and painted by artists such as J.M.W. Turner, Thomas Girtin and John Sell Cotman.

Kirkstall Abbey was acquired by Leeds Corporation as a gift from Colonel North and opened to the public in the late 19th century. The gatehouse became a museum.

1 Raw shot with 3 duplicates processed in photomatix.

I very rarely go out without my camera .
I have been a photographer now for 5 years and loved every minute .
I don’t stick to one particular subject , I like to vary my work then it doesn’t become boring .

Lovely work .Question- what is the difference between doing 3 bracketed exposures and doing HDR and taking a Raw then doing 3 duplicates for HDR?

I assume if you go the Raw route and 3 duplicates that you do not need to bother about a tripod?

  • If you do three bracketed shots you need a tripod , because the slightest movement will cause you to get a ghost image and they wouldn’t process properly.

    Beautiful work Irene, well done.

Did you have to wait long to get a shot with no people in it?

    David xx

This is great shot Irene. I am going to Leeds for a couple of days next Monday but am visiting relatives so I hope I can find a bit of time to get some nice shots in.

  • I was on the outskirts , we didn’t go into the centre of Leeds , but the abbey is worth a visit .
    Thanks Jacqui . x
