The Garden door at the side of Daschner’s Castle, Awosting, New York, USA.
Only the lore behind this property remains. The “castle” was built in the Shawangunk Mountains in Ulster County, New York, USA by a gentleman named Daschner. On this property there is a lake and a barn and who knows what else, the property extends to the top of the mountain. Mr. Daschner is said to have used the home and the property as a sanctuary for many different wildlife animals, as well as some domestic animals. It is said that he would not allow people to pass through his property which was and remains the only way to the top of the mountain to Vandeerkill Falls for hikers unless they contributed to his cause for the animals, whether it be money, food, or a few hours labor. Mr. Daschner passed on a few years back as a very old man.
Though it always looks as though someone resides here, I have never seen anyone on the premise or even around it, and when inquiring about the “castle” with surrounding neighbors, no one seems to be willing to speak up if indeed they even know the history. Though times have changed each season the the scene never seems to change here, not curtains, chairs outside, or even the length of the lawn!
