The Pindrop Foundation’s focus is and always will be about our clients, both adults and children, having access to cochlear implant technology as of right.

We therefore will do what we have to do to ensure adequate funding and other appropriate resourcing are available, so that those who need a cochlear implant receive one in a timely manner.

What is a Cochlear Implant?
A cochlear implant is a hearing implant that uses electrical impulses to stimulate the hearing nerve.

Cochlear Implants are the most cost effective medical intervention for children, and the 3rd most cost effective for adults. Despite this, in New Zealand, where there is no private medical insurance for the devices, we have to rely on government funding. Unfortunately this means that waiting lists develop, sometimes for many years. The people that need these devices are usually those who have lost all useable hearing, who are desperate to hear again, and for some, it means they can no longer work, need to retire early or go on a benefit. They may suffer depression and life becomes very difficult.

Deafness cuts people off from other people. It’s communication that makes the world go round and a cochlear implant goes a long way in helping this.

This RedBubble account has been set up by Robyn Carter. A New Zealander who has had a Cochlear Implant for over 15 years who knows the benefits firsthand. 100% of all artwork/clothing that is sold here goes straight to the Pindrop Foundation, which will go towards enabling profoundly deaf New Zealanders to have the device that will improve their quality of life in a huge way.
