The Rainbow Bridge

Told from the point of view of a dead pet, waiting for its owner to join it so it can cross the bridge to Heaven.

The Rainbow Bridge belongs to the following groups:

The bridge is colourful
The bridge is bright
The bridge is perfect
A beacon of light

The bridge leads to a place
That I won’t see for a while
Because until you join me
I can’t walk that extra mile

But one day I will see you
And then I’ll run so fast
And we’ll cross the bridge together
Together again at last

    thank you Ann.
I can always count on you to say something nice about my poetry :)
I saw a rainbow yesterday and everyone says that when pets die they go to a nice green meadow near the end of the rainbow and then when their owners die they cross the bridge together. Sort of inspired me to write this.

thanks Ellen. Lots of people say associate rats with the rainbow bridge and I had Tilly and Otis in mind when I wrote this. Maybe they’re waiting with your beautiful ratties until our time comes :)

Dogs are so loyal. I imagined a Dog as a narrator. Cats, however, are all going to hell. Very novel idea. Kwl!

  • pillipala replied

haha, yeah, i’ve never owned a cat before so i’m not sure but i do have dogs and also pet rats. Lots of people say that pets go to the rainbow bridge and wait so i thought i’d write a poem about it. Glad you liked it :)
