This photograph is for a challenge we will be running from 5 July for just a few days where you show us an animal you identify with, perhaps explain why and nominate an environmental or animal charity to receive $200. All the staff will be entering but it will also be open to the whole community (of course). RedBubble will be writing a post about it early Monday morning.
Anyway this is my butterfly. A butterfly encompasses the fragility, beauty and brevity of life. They are our own story.
And if I win then RedBubble will be sponsoring three donkeys at the Victorian Donkey Rescue. So vote for me.

What I find most interesting about the butterfly is the transition they make during their short life … perhaps a metaphor for us all? We are capable of much more than we think

Yes, I had sort of forgotten this point but they embody change as well as beauty and fragility. Very good zen masters for us all.

Great Work!!!
Beautiful capture Martin, love the blend of colours and how the butterfly is perfectly balanced.
Great choice too, I have such a soft spot for them, and still get so excited when they visit my garden…you’ll certainly get my vote as sponsoring 3 sweet donkeys is a wonderful idea;)

Hope you have an image you can use in our challenge. It will be open on Monday (GMT 00). Love to see what animal captures your heart.

I love your butterfly / life metaphor….. they’re beautiful creatures.
Donkeys eh? We’ll see ;-)
Oh so true…love the shades of browns and textures with a little peek of green.
I am so happy, to see you and Peter participating, I’m actually weeping happy tears :)
Great Great Great!
What a beauty. Is that pale pink in there? Wonderful muted colors.
And I like how you’ve shot this with the butterfly facing downward on the stem (trunk?) of that plant (tree?). So often we see them poised for flight. But a lot of their time is spent like ours is, standing around on this Earth doing what we have to do to survive.
LOVELY!!!

I had spent about half an hour in the butterfly house before I caught this image – which satisfied me. I like how the butterfly compliments the bamboo on which she is sitting.

totally love your framing… great use of space, well thought out shot, Martin
they are so fragile yet they cover many miles in migration to mate and reproduce and carry on !LIZ
