Carolyn Leete : With Sadness

I am deeply saddened and touched by the death of Carolyn Leete, a member of the RedBubble community. The tragic circumstances of her death are reported here and you may find her profile and art here.

Her art had a gentle beauty and optimism about it. It stands in stark contrast to the violence and futility of her murder. I cannot imagine how her family and friends are feeling. All I would say to them is that hers was a life that touched many through the art she shared.

I have authorised a donation from REDBUBBLE to Stop Violence Against Women part of the general campaign here. This is a global cause which resonates with us at RB.

In LA last week I met the Oscar winning director of Saving Face. The violence against Carolyn is part of a wider issue which must be recognised and dealt with in the 21st Century.

I would urge any who feel similarly to think if you also can make a contribution to this cause via an organisation that is dealing with the issue and to share this message.

This is very sad. It is also horrible and shouldn’t still continue, but it does. Not only against women, but children, too. I’ve donated before and will continue to donate, this time for Carolyn.

No-one deserves or seeks this in life. I read a few comments on the link about her tragic death where the insinuation is she should/ could of avoided what happened. Sigh :( ….. I am saddened further not only by the loss of a creative heart but the lack of those to see there is more in the bigger picture.

Thank you for your post. Domestic violence is an issue that affects all of us. Women die because the laws do not intercede quickly or sternly enough. There is so much cultural denial and myth about this issue even in courts. Women don’t choose this and such a situation can hardly be called a “relationship”. Women “stay” because they can’t get away. I found Carolyn’s last 3 photos to be so very touching in retrospect. May she and her family have peace.
