For the past 3 months I was cooking-up an idea, to make photos of the spooky shapes tree-branches make against the dusk skylight. Then winter came along – twice – and the second time I got my finger, and Hasselblad, out, loaded up with Ilford Pan-F 50+ black and white film, and in the space of less than 20 minutes filled the film with studies of tree branch shapes, all semi-abstracts from nature, an exercise in breaking-down the square frame with angles and curves. Some of them are named for the angles, but others for their connotations of dance, particularly ballet…
