Land of Shadow by

Harker Fell at the end of Haweswater casting a huge shadow and bright patch of sunlight across the landscape. Definitely one to stop the car hastily and take a photo by the roadside.

I particularly enjoy viewing this in an abstract kind of way, concentrating on the diamond shape formed by diagonal lines.

(One scan off Provia, HDR and tonemapped with pregamma_1_drago_bias_0.98 in qtpfsgui, black and white conversion done in PhotoShop. I’m amazed it captured as much of the dynamic range as it did.)

terrific tonal range with lovely solid blacks, nice.

  • Thanks. Indeed, took some delicate balancing at the scene and hard work afterwards to get that :)

Intriguing! Provia continues to surprise, and so do you!
    Thanks for adding it PigleT.

  • Ta. Yeah, I was a bit amazed at the contrast Provia managed to retain in this. There is a hint of a blown highlight in a tiny area but the adjacent tree saves it from being too obvious. Digital had a job coping with that and didn’t give anything wonderful as a composition. Hail square!
