Looking down the gorge from the lower bridge, Falls of Bruar . I’m particularly impressed by the colours and the smooth glistening rocks.
This area is rich in geology (an extension of the Loch Tay fault?): there’s a lot of limestone and other metamorphic sedimentary rocks (layered slate, possibly some schist) and a bit of red sandstone nearby, all folded making rakish angles.
Taken on the Shen Hao 5×4” large-format camera with Fuji Velvia (old RVP emulsion) film.

Love this one!
Don’t know why ;) but I expect the terminator to morph out of the bottom right of this pic. It does remind me of the lower falls in Glen Nevis where the local neds oops sorry youfs jump off the bridge 20 -30 feet into the torrent below…. happy days thanks.
PigleT in reply to calico’s comment, 5 months ago
Well, it does look like a crater, yes – ‘tis actually a gorge; the shot clips the top of a natural arch at the bottom-left corner, through which the river runs.
Youfs… I’d like to see them try it here :)

holy crap! i didn’t even realize this was a photo at first! nicely done!
PigleT in reply to STUDENTdriver24’s comment, 2 months ago
ROFL Yup, indeed. Good ol’ velvia in low light – I have the original transparency as I shot & processed upstairs to prove it!
Thanks to others for comments too, all appreciated :)

great colour, contrast and use of time delay. must have been hard finding a secure spot for your tripod? nice eye for detail btw
PigleT in reply to Kane Horwill’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks. No time-delay, just long exposure (about 8s IIRC). You can see how the tripod was set up – took a little while shuffling along leftwards to get the optimum view.

RAW is amazing, the colours, shapes and sheen… it evades scale – could be anything from a tiny rock pool to an glacial lake amid mountains on an alien planet! Wonderful image! A fusion of real-life close-up observation with escapist fantasy. (Both, of course, harness imagination).
Thanks, PigleT!
PigleT in reply to armadillozenith’s comment, about 1 month ago
Thanks – well said, I didn’t put it any better myself although I agree entirely about the sense of scale :)
For the record it’s probably about 7-10m across from bottom to top of the frame.
