Moment of Sunrise
Moment(n): A minute portion of time; a point of time; force; momentum; consequence; an essential element; a deciding point, fact, or consideration; an essential or influential circumstance.
Glen Affric is a glen south-west of the village of Cannich in the Highland region of Scotland, 15 miles west of Loch Ness. The area is a Caledonian Forest Reserve, a National Scenic Area and a National Nature Reserve. Often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, it contains one of the largest ancient Caledonian pine-woods in Scotland, where the trees range from 350-500 years old and there have been trees on the site for 8000 years, as well as lochs, moorland and mountains.
This was taken early on a winter’s morning, at the moment the sun rose over a mountain ridge, on a Ricoh 500G rangefinder camera – my first test roll of Fuji Superia 200 through the thing. Scanned straight – nothing but choosing while-balance off the index print, no tweaks no nothing.

Thanks dinghysailor1! Yep, the original I uploaded here is a bit non-small – 8000px wide or something, straight off the scanner. Will have to do that more often ;)

Wow, brilliant shot!
I love working with older RF Fixed lens cameras. Somehow they seem to treat slide film right, once you get the battery issues sorted…
PigleT replied
Thanks – yes, I’m sure the averaging metering works well with slide, but I’m impressed at how it’s treated C41 stuff as well. I could get used to it as a medium in which to work all to itself, I think. :)

You capture the cold of the morning, with the light of the sunrise.

Yep, indeed. Lovely it was, too. :) Ta

Incredible range of tones and detail and dynamic range and all those terms. Mainly, this is simply beautiful, piglet!
(Apologies if I sound too familiar, but my mate was born in a mainframe; anyone with your eye for beauty who also knows Linux gets my immediate attention and admiration.)
PigleT replied
Thank ye kindly :) Not bad for an old compact camera and no processing, I thought. Have scenery, will travel :)
