This shot, of my normally camera shy boxer, is probably the best one I have of him. I think it shows his wonderful character. He has been and is one of those special dogs. They are all special, of course, but there are the ones that stand out as more than a good pet. Tyson is one of those.

EDIT: Tyson died rather suddenly 5-4-11 we believe from a stroke or heart attack. I understand why some people just can’t put themselves through this even for the love of a dog for another 10-15 years. We are heartbroken. RIP my buddy.

Two weeks later, I couldn’t stand the loneliness and adopted a little ‘terrier mix’ from the local humane society shelter. Well, turns out she’s mostly Pit Bull Terrier, maybe even a pure bred, but as a stray we’ll never know. She’s 9 months old and as loving as I’d thought she’d be. She sure helps ease the pain (if only because she keeps me so BUSY) but I still miss my Tyson terribly….and always will. I know someday I’ll miss Sophie just as badly. :)

    Beautiful portrait of Tyson.

  • Thanks! He really is a special guy. Love your avatar. If Tyson has a fault, it’s his intolerance of cats. He thinks they were put on this earth for him to chase and torment.
Your work is very cool and interesting. Thanks for the comment and the fav.

Lovely portrait of your Tyson. Indeed, his heart really seems to shine through! I hope you have many more years together.

  • Thank you Jacqueline. Unfortunately, 10 is the average life span for boxers, but he is still in good health. Slowing down and getting gray (none of that white around his eyes was there a year ago) but can still turn on the gas and overcome the arthritis to chase the occasional bunny, squirrel or cat. He never catches them, but it’s still great fun!

Nice picture, nice dog, but then I love boxers. Mine was a very special girl also.

  • Thank you. Boxers are so funny and full of expression. Tyson is slowing down, but still makes us laugh and is very well loved.

Love this pic. I to had a “Tyson”, one of those dogs that is special and is never just a dog, Murphy.I know exactly what you mean. I think boxers look very wise as they age.

  • Thanks kirst. Boxers are just a special breed all around, and when you get an extra special….well it’s just an extraordinary experience.
