I thought I was in shape for bicycling hills, but our central North Carolina hills were puny compared to the Tuscan terrain. I always assumed a downhill would be around the next bend in the road, but it would be an even steeper climb. There was mile after mile of uphill. Of course it was accompanied by some beautiful views.

In a change of direction from science, I started painting in mid-life. I am always inspired by beautiful landscapes and consumed with the challenge of recalling in a painting the feeling of being there. I also can’t resist a good laugh, and I love to create art that can give someone a good laugh.
