The inspiration for this drawing was an old photo I found of one of my great-grandmothers; her name was Elizabeth……she was sitting on the porch of her Kansas farmhouse…probably sometime during the late 1920s or early 1930s…the Great Depression and Dust Bowl came and went, and as the years went on…she and her family survived. She had several children, one of whom was my grandfather.

Elizabeth was an Irish immigrant who came to America via Canada sometime during the late 1800’s.

I tried to capture in the drawing the special, happy feeling that the old photograph conveyed to me…

Thank you for visiting my site. I work only in traditional mediums—primarily, oils, pastels, charcoal, and graphite.

Wow, gorgeous portrait! Such a classic nostalgic feel, and I especially love the subtle wash shading contrasting with hatching! :)

  • Thank you Laura…so pleased that you see the nostalgic feeling I was attempting to portray!

Pretty cool, Pammy…I’m thinking…I bet she could’ve hidden a litter kittens under that dress?!

  • Yep, I bet there could be some cats hiding under there…getting ready to steal the yarn ball:)
