Spain’s cycle racing season gets under way in February with the traditional opening race, the ‘Challenge Vuelta Ciclista a Mallorca’.
The Majorca Challenge is an international event and attracts many of the top teams in the cycling world. It consists of a series of five races throughout the island. The first race is a circuit race held around the streets of Palma. The city’s famous ‘La Seu’ cathedral provides a spectacular backdrop to the Paseo Maritimo sprint leg of the race.
This year’s race runs from 6th to 10th February and sees teams such as RadioShack, HTC-Highroad and Garmin-Cervelo join the strong Spanish line-up.
Mallorca is a popular destination for cyclists of all abilities, due to its climate and the selection of cycling routes available. Many of the top international teams use Majorca to host their winter training camps.
