Hurricane Ridge at sundown.
Hurricane Ridge, Olympic NP, Washington state, USA.
Feeling the need to get away from the traffic below, we drove up to this viewpoint one evening, on a road trip through Washington State and Oregon, the Pacific North West of the USA. There weren’t too many folk up there, just a few black-tailed deer for company. I just loved those misty layers. It was a great way to end the day !
I shot this on my CANON EOS 20D, with my Tamron 28-300mm lens, set at 55mm, polarising filter, on tripod, f8, 1/250sec, iso 100, Auto WB, RAW file processed in Photoshop CS3. I cooled the image down by reducing the colour temperature to make it more blue, the rest was just levels/curves adjustments.
I used a relatively wide aperture to keep the image on the soft side, enhancing the misty layers.

Beautiful misty capture. The first time I was at Hurricane Ridge, I kept looking for Heidi and her goats to come up the hill or Julie Andrews to come running by!!
LOL
PhotosEcosse replied
Heck, if I saw Julie Andrews coming my way I woulda run in the opposite direction ! LOL !

I am glad that you all like the colours – I had to re-upload this image, the colours were WAY outa wack, they still do not match my work on Photoshop or my calibrated monitor, and Yes, I double checked that the image was sRGB !

Excellent composition. I lived in Sequim until this year. Been to the Ridge many times but have never seen it looking any more lovely than your rendering here.
Shaun Whiteman
Great shot, I love the misty feel to the shot and the blue hues look great.
I know what you mean about colour “shifts”, I look at my shot in CS4, then on flickr then on RB, RB saturates and darkens shots from my experiences…it drives me mad sometimes because I have to do a RB and flickr version of my shots!!
PhotosEcosse replied
Just to compare, I loaded up IE8, and Mozilla Firefox, plus Adobe CS3, Flickr AND RB.
Mozilla Firefox -(has to be version 3.5, which IS colour managed, unlike IE8,) – on RB, and Flickr, almost an exact match to Photoshop.
On IE8, blues turned a garish and unacceptable cyan, but reds were fine, though a lot of shots were TOO saturated. Neither Flickr or RB in any way resembled what I had on my Photoshop screen.
Safari shows true colours on RB ONLY on the public view, on the buy previews, same problems as IE8, which I found rather strange.
My conclusion – I now use only Mozilla Firefox 3.5 (other versions no good) which gives the truest match to all my hard work in Photoshop ! (it is also faster !)
Nice to speak again Shaun, hope all goes well with you !
