The election here in the USA had me go back and look at some photos from 2008 at an Obama rally in Harrisburg, PA. I was curious to see what all the fuss was about, well, I saw and understood. This was on the rope line after he spoke, everybody just wanted to touch him.

Nikon D70 and 17-55mm Tamron lens.

Not a fan of the man by any means, but the photograph is simply wonderful, Tony.

  • Thanks Frannie, first time I have been to a political rally, as I said curious to see what the fuss was all about. It was quite an event from the music to the diversity of the supporters and there was no denying his charisma and the affection both ways no matter your political stance. What really struck me though was how many just wanted to touch him on the rope line. I was in an area that was reserved for local people in Harrisburg working on the campaign. I walked by the person checking for invitations with my camera around my neck like I belonged and I guess they bought it. I wasn’t looking through the viewfinder holding the camera above my forehead trying to get the hands reaching for him and I got lucky in a way cutting off his eyes and when I saw it on my computer I actually think it adds to what I was trying to show, the eyes might have been a distraction. Any way I like it too and feel it expresses the feel of what I experienced. :o) tony

that really works well even (or possibly ‘especially’) without eyecontact to emphasise the contact between The Man and the crowd!

  • Thanks Berndt I explained it to Frannie above but I agree with you. I shot a little above my head to get the hands and cutting off his eyes was just good luck as it turned out. It made a stronger statement about the experience. tony

Unlike one of your other comments, I AM for this man and I was cheering from the rooftops the night that it was declared he won. There is such command and power in his hands, the hand of the free world. This photo delights me, Tony. We are PROUD to include this in our gallery at Male Appreciation. Thank you for sharing this.

  • Thank You Scott ! I am doing my best to stay out of the politics of it but the image is a good representation of the feeling at the rally. Just for the record I am a registered independent. . :o) tony Have a few others I might post but this is my favorite. tony

wow, great catch, I like the shadows!

  • Thank You Esther, yes I think the shadows and hands give a sense of how it was to be on the rope line, a little chaotic and exciting. tony
