Mid 70’s, we drove into Monument Valley at night pulled to the side of the dirt road we were on tossed our sleeping bags on the ground, curled up in the cold with our two weimerheimers and went to sleep. We woke at dawn to this view. Monument Valley, Arizona, USA

At first, I thought this might be HDR. Very well done, with the range of light and shadow. Focus and DOF is also fantastic.

  • Thanks Joe, no I am, not a fan of hdr at least most of what I see. Film had a much higher dynamic range than digtal the 24 mp cameras andlarger are catching up. My sony has a huge dynamic range compared to my old camera. HDR I think is way too often overdone, it washes out the image makes it flat most of the time in my opinion. Every tutorial or advice I have read from the pros on HDR starts out by saying most people overdue it. If the HDR is obvious once again just my opinion it looks unnatural, it is niot what the eye sees.

  • This is natural HDR taken just after surise when the light is soft and the shadows are open. LOL tony

That is some incredible light! Beautiful!

  • Thanks Staephanie, yes it was incredible light and I was lucky enough to be there and wake up in time. LOL It was a crazy two week trip through the soutwest , no plans, kind of like that looks like a good road let’s take it and we hit so mnay beautiful places with absolutely no destinations in mind. Not even smart enough to take a tent just sleeping bags and our two dogs. Total serendipity which gave us total freedom except for the date we had to be back in Dallas. tony

great picture tony! I love west of USA. I was a truck driver before and I enjoy your country. I was in love with Arizona! lol

  • Thank You, I love Arizona too! This photo was taken 35 years ago on film. I live in the East now but miss the dramatic landscapes of the west. tony.
