I hitchhiked and bussed around Mexico for two weeks while living there. At one point I ended up in Puerto Escondido, one 6 room motel on the beach, few tourists, no paved roads, beautiful beach on a small harbor, wonderful people and you could pick out your fish from the fishermen as they returned with their catch, tag along to the restaurant and have it prepared, Paradise!! I rented a space in a perfect grove of palm trees bewteen four palm trees with a hammock hung diagonally which is where I slept. Outdoor shower and toilet for fifty cents a night. It was hard to leave.

Love that kind of travel. The more local the better! This is above and beyond excellent, tony! :-) val

  • Thanks Val, it was a pretty amzing trip, ended up in a lot of out of the way places with some special memories. Puerto Escondido was special back then, I know there has been development but not sure how much. The roads in were dirt for miles back then, I took a bus, chickens and goats included through the mountains to Oaxaca in a deluge, the road was mud and we were sliding all over the place. Scariest ride of my life. The driver had his girlfriend next to him, music blaring and not a care in the world, of course he did have his little shrine with blinking lights, a madonna and Jesus to protect us. LOL tomy

I wish I had the guts to do some of this type of travel now. I remember sleeping on the beach when I was in college and being just fine with it. Great story to go along with this incredible image. Fantastic. Thanks for bringing these out.

  • Hi Chris, yeah I am not sure I would have the guts today but glad I did it back then for sure! tony

    What an experience…..fantastic shot!

  • It was a wonderful experience, not only Puerto Escondido but the entire trip. I spent 3 days at a small village of maybe 30 families with o two room Palm thatched open air huts. The only electricity they had ran around the compound and they had one bare bulb in front of each hut. The huts were in a oblong formation. The first morning they gave me a towel and we headed for the river. I get there and half the village is in the river bathing and the other were disrobing. so I stripped a little self consciously with the kids laughing got in and took my morning bath. It was so natural, people chatting, laughing and totally comfortable.

    Great shot Tony…
a slice of time [just reminding myself to pull finger out & ply through my old negs!!!]
    & a fav from me
    Cheers Lee

  • Hi Lee and thanks for the comment and fav. Here is the link to the service I used, it takes a while but it is inexpensive and you can review the scanse before they bill you and reject 29% which is cool. Negatives you have to leave in strips, obviously slides are done individually. Everything is hand done and Given the age of my stuff and I really didn’t store them very well I think the quality was great. scancafe
If they ask how you heard about it, give them my e-mail

If you go to Ken and he sometimes has an offer of a $50 discount with a code from him which I used. tony

    Thanks Tony…
I did buy a scanner for said purpose but this seems way easier
    We’ll see
    Cheers Lee

  • It is easier but takes 6 to 8 weeks. They hand do tham clean them etc. Really happy with the quality. They do it in India. If you have mold or exceptional stuff on one you really like they will do a restore but that gets more expensive and they recommend ones thay think need it.
