This guy was tending the gate where the contestants on their horses entered and left the arena. His Dad was nearby but busy with his own duties. When I had a chance I told Dad how impressed I was with how serious his son took his responsibility and his Dad said he wants to “Rodeo” when he gets older. I then asked what dad thought and he said, “Don’t think it matters much, it’s what he’s going to do, what he’s always wanted as long as he can remember but I’m okay with it.” Then he smiled. I really like this. It is extremely well done and I love the moodiness as well as the fact there is no question where this scene was. I truly believe it would be a great addition to the Welcome Pennsyvania Group.

  • Thanks Dan, thought I put it in Welcome Pa but will check and do so if I overlooked it. He was quite the character and serious about being a Cowboy.

If I hadn’t seen the word Pennsylvania, I would have thought that this was a home town event in South Dakota. Excellent composition and well captured.

  • Thanks, Scott I have to admit I was surprised myself the first time I went to the High School Rodeo here in PA, The contestants are from all over the Northeast and it is definitely a culture that I didn’t know existed here. Spent a few years in Texas and attended quite a few rodeos but just never expected it here. There were 2 National Rodeo Champions from my hometown, Harrisburg,PA and i asked if it was reported in the local paper and was told they called the paper from Wyoming when they won and were told the newspaper wasn’t interested in the story, just amazed me.

CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve been featured in the “Welcome Pennsylvania” Group.

  • Thanks Dan, This has always been one of my favorite Photographs and I was never sure how much it was influenced by what a good time I had photographing the eventss at the Farm Show and in the case of the Rodeo discovering this culture I was previously unaware of here in PA. Nice to know others can see it through my photo. I am honored.

Some of the best photojournalism and Street Photography gives an insight into the world as well as the subject. In this case you beautifully captured the scale of the boys responsibilities and what he seeks to take on.

It’s a beautifully emotive capture Tony and the reason why I picked it to be featured in the Street Photography and Photojournalism group. Congratulations on your great work..

  • Thanks for the feature John and for the great comments. It is a honor to be featured in your great Group! Tony
