This building was built in 1893 by Lewis Bradbury and designed by George Wyman. From the outside the building looks like a turn of the century brick building, from the inside it is a blast back to the past with an odd look of the future. This building has been used in many movies and TV shows. It was designated a National Historical Landmark building in 1977 and has been a favorite for photographers and movie moguls for many many years. It is located in Los Angeles CA on Broadway and 3rd. The entire inside is lit up by natural lighting from a sky light that takes up the entire roof above the 5th floor. Image taken with a Cannon 1Ds mark ll

Beautful shot is this in LA. and is it open to anyone.

  • Hi Larry Thank you for the compliment! The buiding is open to anyone but you are not allowed above the first floor without some kind of official business or permisssion it is located on Broadway and 3rd streets downtown LA. Bring some good graduated filters with you because the lighting is tricky!

Terrific capture (and what a cool building!). I just spent a Saturday in Downtown shooting, but I missed this building altogether. You shot this very well!

  • Thanks Kevin If you get a chance go back it is very cool and there are some other interesting things to see around this building. The LA marketplace is right across the street and and old Theater is on the Corner. I used to go in and out of this building in the 80s as a courier delivering to Lawyers there. I have been in many of the offices there. They now only let you go to the top of the stairs right at the second story. The Lighting is tricky because the entire building is lit by one huge sky light so depending on the weather you may have a good day or not so good day. They encourage pictures and the guards try to stay out of the way. Take filters and several size lens’s that should help.
