Northwestern Steptoe Valley, Nevada – USA
Seven Sorrels – Wild mares and ponies. BLM intended to gather ALL 42 of the mustangs ranging along the eastern base of the Cherry Creek Mountains in August.
They failed to capture this band (nine in all – and looks like another one on the way) – plus two young bachelor stallions.
These horses are all related to each other, and the removal of the other three wild bands puts the risk of inbreeding at a critical level. Foals are apt to be afflicted with dwarfism: large heads, small bodies, and club feet.
Once again, government intervention wreaks havoc on the natural order of things.
