This is how Nevada’s famous Road Art “Galleries” get started. Next thing you know, some joker will come along and add a pair of boots … or a head ….
Travelers through the vast “Big Empty” that is rural Nevada, are apt to come upon scenes like this. Sometimes, the display is caused by a random act of Nature; sometimes, it is a deliberate expression of creativity.
I don’t imagine anyone can explain the proclivity of SOME Nevadans to leave “messages” along the lonely roadside. Perhaps, it is like the message in a bottle, sent by some weary traveler, alone in a vast and seemingly empty place to those who follow behind. Perhaps, it arose from our forebearers’ need to save every remnant, “just-in-case-somebody-might-need-it-sometime”.
To the uninformed, these wayside exhibits may appear unsightly mars upon the pristine landscape. Yet we ask — NO! we you to leave them as they stand (feel free to add your own flashes of brilliance to the existing ones), for unexpected signs of humanity can be a refreshing wake-me-up along the endless highways of this vast country.
