Artist's Description

Bristlecone pine trees are thought to be the oldest living things on earth. They exist at high elevations, in cold, arid, and very rough terrain. Their trunks are gnarled and irregular; sometimes, it’s not easy to know whether they are still alive. Now and then, we find a healthy and vibrant specimen.

I took this photo last summer; thought then it would make a nice holiday card … and so it does, I think.
