Lucky young bull elk! In all, there are five cows and two calves in his harem.

This time of year, the bulls have come down from the high country to spend a bit of quality time with their mates and offspring.

Soon, there will be bugling and snorting, the rattle of horns, and hunters in pursuit. From the original 24 elk brought into the Cherry Creek and Egan Mountains about five years ago, herds of more than a hundred elk have arisen.

My mission is to preserve as much as I can, of that which will soon vanish, through my photography.

Wow look at the antlers on him!! I love the family shot.

  • Thank you, ices! This is probably the young guy’s first set of antlers. Hopefully, he will survive this year’s hunt, and grow even bigger ones, next year. :)
