Cherry Creek, Nevada
(2010.AUG.29)
Annie was rescued from a Nevada wild horse gather, about six years ago. Just a few weeks old at the time, she was motherless, battered, and starving – it was thought that the mare might have been killed in the stampede, but this cannot be verified definitively. (To this day, the sound of a helicopter drives Annie into near panic.)
A photographer riding with the BLM round-up crew was so moved by the condition and unfavorable prognosis of the foal, that she got permission to take it home to her ranch.
She soon transferred ownership of the filly to Ray, who was eventually able to officially adopt Annie.

The mare utterly adores that guy. I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual.
Annie is thought to be from the Siberian curly-coats, from the western part of the state.

What a touching image and a happy ending to Annie’s heart-wrenching story. Anyone who loves and rescues animals is a kindred spirit to me. Beautiful, moving work, Arla!

Gorgeous portrait showing the love between this horse and her man.
I wonder how many foals will be lost or left behind out there right now during the current round up.
I heard that today’s helicopter roundups were postponed due to high winds. ( Hey!They don’t call it “Moriah” for no reason!) I swear, it is like waiting and hoping for an eleventh hour reprieve from the governor.

Great capture Aria.
Could be titled ‘The Big Face Off’ LOL
Without the background story, I think this image could evoke a number of different interpretations.
Thank you very much, Don!
