Great Basin Life exists … between … high desert expanses and majestic mountain wilderness.

Daily, I watch the winds of change sweeping away what remains of our western culture and heritage, and the land that has produced them.

My mission is to preserve as much as I can, of that which will soon vanish, through my photography.

Lol! You live even further out in the boonies than we do. I envy you. This area is getting crowded with people escaping the big city and it’s looking more urban every day. Of course, I was one of those people escaping Southern California thirty years ago, so I can’t begrudge others who want to get away.

  • Oh, I know! I visited Poulson a couple of years ago, and could not believe the urban sprawl! There aren’t any jobs here, so the only “growth” we see is the occasional retiree. :p

The job market crashed here last year. Most of our growth is from movie stars and their hangers on and rich people who want summer homes. We also get retirees (the nicest of the newcomers) who live here in the warmer months and live in Nevada or Arizona through the winter. Basically, the only jobs are service related: hotels, restaurants and fast food workers. For the first time that I can remember, even Wendy’s and McDonalds are no longer hiring.
