Do you want to take a ride?
I recently discovered a RedBubble group called Tag Along – whose purpose is to link up photographers for photo shoots. The “opportunity” I am about to describe may not precisely fit the group’s ideal, but I am just going to throw it out there, anyhow ….....
I am currently on a short-term contract in northern New Mexico, between the cities of Las Vegas (NM – not NV) and Santa Fe. I need to make a mad dash by car, to my home in eastern Nevada (near Ely) – and BACK AGAIN … all within a couple of days’ time. The trip is about 900 miles EACH WAY, and actual driving time is approximately 14 hours EACH WAY—not counting REST STOPS and PHOTO OPS.
Departure date is no longer FLEXIBLE. I will be leaving VERY EARLY tomorrow morning (TUESDAY – 2009.OCT.27), returning no later than the evening of WEDNESDAY, 2009.OCT.28
My usual route includes Mesa Verde, the Four Corners area, and the magnificent Escalante and Canyonlands of Utah. Sadly, there will not be a LOT of spare time for exploring, or waiting around for the absolutely BEST LIGHT … but … well … if anybody wants to jump in as co-pilot on this whirlwind “adventure” - please BMail me OR email: PHOTOROVER@GREATBASINLIFE.COM …... IMMEDIATELY (if not sooner).
I am open to the idea of somebody hitching along for only part of the way, or in either direction. I’ll buy the gas; you cover your own meals and any other expenses.
For my security, I will require a scan of your driver’s license, and a recent photo – which will be e-mailed to a third party for the duration of the trip, and then destroyed. Thanks!
PS: Must love dogs. :)

Oh, Arla! That would be so fun! Hope you find someone to “tag along”! I’ll have to check out the group, have not heard of it.
Arla M. Ruggles replied
It would be a lot MORE fun if I had at least a week to do it in—as was the original plan … I would expect some good colors in So. UT, at least. :)

Great idea Arla, and hope you get a great companion. If only I could be there….:-)))
Arla M. Ruggles replied
Yeah – that would be so cool! But two days would not be enough. :D))
Gene Praag
Wish I could come…...Sounds like fun!
Arla M. Ruggles replied
Thanks, Gene! No takers, so I guess it’s solo—not counting two crazy canines. They aren’t good drivers.

UPDATE – 2009.OCT.29,WED.8:20AM:
I arrived HOME at 2:45 am, Wednesday. The trip took exactly 21 hours, and mileage was 909.9 miles.
We were extremely fortunate to have had terrific weather the entire way UNTIL the White Pine County (NV) line. From there to Cherry Creek, near-blizzard conditions made going slow. I was mostly grateful to be traveling at that late hour, for there was scarcely any traffic to worry about. I got to blaze the trail.
It is stormy and cold here, with severe storms predicted to the south. I may postpone my return until tomorrow. I am tired … and SO glad to be home!

I wish it could have been me, Arla. I hope you made it back safely…Lynn
Arla M. Ruggles replied
Thanks, Lynn – maybe another time …... I am back in NM – what a fabulous scenic trip; just WAY too fast! I MUST get back to So.UT very soon! :)
Lynn Bawden
Northern NM is beautiful, especially where you are now. When do you return to gorgeous Eastern Nevada?...Lynn
Arla M. Ruggles replied
I am flying back on Tuesday … Twin Falls, ID on Thursday, then I get to stay home for a couple of weeks. :)
Lynn Bawden
Then back to NM?
Arla M. Ruggles replied
NO WAY … I am staying home for a while ….. I think. :)
Arla M. Ruggles replied
Oh … I have to go back to Twin for one day in Nov.
Lynn Bawden
Is Twin in NM? Are you flying?
Arla M. Ruggles replied
Twin Falls, Idaho. I will drive—up and back the same day. :)
Lynn Bawden
I do not know how many miles that is round trip, but make sure you take ample breaks along the road…I care…Lynn
Arla M. Ruggles replied
It’s only about 4 hours each way …. that’s nuthin’ for an old road junkie like me
-I just did two 1,000 mile drives, virtually back-to-back. Thanks for caring. ;)Lynn Bawden
That isn’t too long of a drive…just take breaks for safety sake…Lynn
