Afternoon Paintbrush

Indian Paintbrush are among the first of the wildflowers to bloom in our high arid mountains—and the last to remain in autumn. They range in color from deep sanguine red to bright yellow, and I have seen white ones once or twice in my lifetime. The most common color is bright orange.

Wow, the lighting here is absolutely amazing!!!! The paintbrush has always held a special place in my heart. Growing up, my family always went fishing to a couple of different lakes up in Canada, and these paintbrushes were abundant up there!! They were always so beautiful, I always imagined God taking His paintbrush and deciding that the landscape needed a bit of color! Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Arla M. Ruggles replied

Gosh, Ann! That’s kind of the way I look at them, too!

We have so little color here, most of the year (not counting blue and purple mountains)—the paintbrushes are like little beacons of brilliance on the landscape.

Thanks for the nice comments – I’m glad you like these. :)
