It is an exception in present digital days that some photographers still working with the film and searching it’s new possibilities.
Miloslav Zmrzly experiments with “photopainting” technique. The basis for each photopaint is interesting and creative photo shot taken on middle or large format film, mostly black & white negative or color slide. The shot must be perfect because it’s not possible to do radical changes of it in a computer as is usual in contemporary photography.
Each frame of film is modified with colorizing by hand, acid etching, sandwiching etc. Sometime is one from these techniques used; sometime is used the combination of all.
The film is scanned in high resolution after these modifications and printed on painter’s canvas. The canvas is stretched into a frame and finished by hand with oil colors. Details, surfaces and shadows are enhanced and there can be added real or abstract motive.
Other method is realization of limited editon of 10 prints (photopaper, RA-4 process).
