This strange artwork by the hand of Wim Delvoye was part of the 1st edition of Beaufort and became part of the permanent scultpure park on the belgian coast.
Wim Delvoye regards himself as an artistic engineer-manager, deviser and developer of objects of art. Art and kitsch go hand in hand in his work, as he balances between ‘high’ and ‘low culture’. In the work of art Caterpillar two completly unrelated objects are confronted with each other, namely a caterpillar tractor and a Gothic church. Thus the artist tries to find a balance between the reality of the moment and the romantic glorification of the past.
